Commitment to Green

Our Commitment To Green is demonstrated in the following practices: Use of organic, nontoxic products whenever possible. Use of plants that are grown in the USA, and ideally, locally, whenever possible. Use of organic fertilizers.

Recycling and composting – Our goal is to send nothing to the landfill; just about everything is either recycled or composted. Integrated pest & weed management; We use non-chemical methods to control pests and weeds whenever possible.

Promoting water efficiency – We just don't have water to waste in California. Our exterior staff includes several Qualified Water Efficient Landscapers. They know how to help you save money on your water bill and conserve one of our most precious natural resources. We encourage our exterior clients to choose drought tolerant, native species for their landscape, and to replace lawns with more water efficient landscaping.

Additionally, we always recommend adding a natural bark mulch layer to exterior planting beds to reduce evaporation, conserve water and suppress weed growth.

hot tips for watering house plants

Watering your house plants doesn't have to be an exact science, but it does require constancy. Based on what we have seen at Plant Decor, overwatering is the most common reason for decline or death of your green foliaged beauty.

Here are some hot tips to help you provide the appropriate level of care and water to your house plants:

Set a plant watering schedule that works for you. Typically speaking, the average house plant will not need to be watered more than once every other week. Mark your day on the calendar to water plants and stick to it. Plants love consistency, even if they go a little more dry then they prefer.

Push your finger into the soil. If the first inch or two or soil is dry, that is an indicator of needing water. If it is a table top plant, you can even pick it up to further investigate how dry it is. Most plants prefer to go dry between waterings, it gives them time to digest what they need!

Once a month or every other month take time to give your house plants a good soaking. To do this fill the sink, tub or a pan with water set the plant container in the water. The water should not be able to flow over the rim of the container. The plant should be able to soak the water up from the bottom. Leave the plant in there for 15 to 20 min. The plant may not need to be watered again for several more weeks. If your next watering date comes up and you see the soil is still moist then don’t be afraid to skip that watering.

Fertilize at least once a month but no more than twice a month. At Plant Decor we like to use water soluble nutrients, which means adding a nutrient to the watering can or pitcher, before you water. There are many good ones out there, so check it out next time you are at your local gardening store.

You can water house plants anytime during the day but try to avoid watering at night.
